Soundscape scenes, WAV and sharing

Intermediate 8 min

Bring your own Soundscape Atlas mixes into a playlist, render the playlist to a WAV file, credit the recordings, and share a room as a link — also from the API.

Every scene in Focus Room is a Soundscape Atlas scene. That means you can design a scene in Soundscape Atlas — with real field recordings from the world map, generated weather and slow automation — and play it here with your other scenes.

Send a scene from Soundscape Atlas

  1. Open your scene in Soundscape Atlas.
  2. Choose File → Open in Focus Room.
  3. Focus Room opens in a new tab and adds the scene to the playlist of the room that is open there. A message says Scene “…” from Soundscape Atlas added to the playlist.

Nothing is uploaded: the scene travels through your browser. Audio that you imported into Soundscape Atlas from your own files stays in that app and is left out; Focus Room says so in the message.

Or open a scene file

In Soundscape Atlas, File → Save scene file writes a .soundscape.json file. In Focus Room, choose File → Open room or scene file… (or Import Soundscape scene… in the Playlist tab) and pick that file. Focus Room recognises the format: a Soundscape scene is added to the playlist, a .focusroom.json file opens as a room.

Scenes keep their own layers, levels, automation and room. Their own sleep timer is switched off — the room's sleep timer is used instead.

Render the playlist to WAV

Choose File → Render playlist to WAV…. A room's scenes usually last many minutes, so the dialog asks for Seconds per scene (at most); the dialog shows the resulting file length. Choose a Sample rate and press Render.

Focus Room renders the scenes in play order (shuffle included) with their crossfades and the whole Sound tab, entirely on your device, and downloads a 16-bit WAV file. Recordings are fetched from Wikimedia Commons first. Open in another app… hands the file to another usefulweb app, for example Reelcraft.

Credit the recordings

If a scene contains Wikimedia Commons recordings, File → Credits of the recordings… lists every one with its title, author and licence. Keep these lines with anything you publish; CC BY-SA recordings also require that your mix is shared under the same licence. A room with only generated sounds has nothing to credit.

Share a room

File → Share link… creates a link that contains the whole room: playlist, sound, background and timer. Scenes are stored as references and parameters, never as audio, and the session log is never included. Anyone who opens the link gets their own copy.

The same from the API

Two tools use the Focus Room engine:

  • focusroom-playlist-render renders generated scenes — written as lines such as brown-noise 30, or as a pasted room or share link — with crossfades and master effects into a WAV file. For the same room and length it returns the same file as the app.
  • focusroom-focus-timer turns a routine into a schedule and an .ics file, exactly like the Timer tab's calendar export.

Both are listed on the Focus Room start page under For AI agents, with their JSON API and MCP names. The room format is documented at /project.schema.json.
