Your first focus room in five minutes

Beginner 5 min

Open a template, press Play, start a Pomodoro and learn the parts of the Focus Room workspace — stage, panels and player.

Focus Room is a calm room for your screen. It plays ambience scenes one after another, shapes their sound, draws a slow background and keeps time for your focus blocks. Nothing plays until you press Play.

The workspace at a glance

  • The stage on the left (on a phone: at the top) shows the generative background with a large clock. While a scene plays, its name appears under the clock; while the focus timer runs, the current phase and the remaining time appear too.
  • The panel on the right has five tabs: Playlist, Sound, Background, Timer and Log. You can switch with the keys 1 to 5.
  • The player at the bottom has Previous scene, Play and Next scene, the name and remaining time of the current scene, a progress bar, the volume slider and a Start focus button.

Open a template

The first time you open Focus Room it loads the Deep work room. To try another one:

  1. Open the File menu and choose Templates….
  2. Pick Pomodoro café and press Open.

Your previous room is not lost. Every room is saved in this browser automatically and listed under File → Recent rooms….

Listen

Press Play (or the Space key when no button has focus). The first scene of the playlist starts. Pomodoro café shuffles its three scenes — a coffee-shop-like murmur (a generated impression of a café made from filtered noise), a fireside and light rain — so your first scene may differ from someone else's. The player shows how much of the scene is left, for example 29:56 left.

Press Next scene (or N) to move on. The next scene does not cut in: it fades in while the current one fades out, so the change is smooth. Previous scene (or P) goes back.

Press Pause to stop. When you press Play again, the scene continues where it stopped.

Start a focus block

Press Start focus in the player or Start the timer in the Timer tab (the key T works too). The room template already chose a routine: Pomodoro café uses four 25-minute blocks with 5-minute breaks. The stage now shows Focus block 1 of 4 and a countdown.

When the block ends, a soft bell rings and the break begins. During breaks the sound gets a little quieter; you can change that in the Timer tab. Every finished block is written to your session log — open the Log tab to see it.

Make it yours

  • Rename the room in the name field at the top, for example Morning writing.
  • In Background, pick Rain on glass or Zen sand ripples.
  • In Sound, press Warm for a softer sound.

Every change can be undone with Ctrl+Z and is saved automatically. To keep a copy outside the browser, choose File → Save room file — you get a .focusroom.json file that opens again with File → Open room or scene file….
